About Author

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I attended college at Georgetown and St. Mary's Universities in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, and currently am a writer, speaker, and family therapist in Berkeley, California.

Ordained to the ministry in 1963, I served the Diocese of Boise, Idaho for 18 years. My work was both administrative and pastoral, and included 3˝ years working in Cali, Colombia, South America.

In 1979 I chose to leave the ministry, returned to school, and earned a doctoral degree (S.Th.D) in pastoral psychology from a school of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley. The following year I received my license as a family therapist from the California state Board of Behavioral Sciences.

My counseling experience includes working for a social service agency (Catholic Counseling Service, Oakland), serving as clinical director of the Lay Counseling Service at Berkeley’s First Presbyterian Church, and on the staff of a Lutheran church-based counseling service.

I am an adjunct faculty member of the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and a member of the Bay Area Advisory Board of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry.

Home is in Kensington, California (San Francisco Bay Area) and in the West End of Vancouver, British Columbia.
